James has 16 years of expertise working on supply chain labor issues and is considered an industry leader. Prior to joining Futuremade, James spent three years as a managing partner at ELEVATE and another seven years leading the rapid expansion of Level Works Ltd, a Hong Kong based monitoring and capacity building firm supporting global brands and retailers.
Level Works became known as the largest specialty firm in its space as well as an influential advocate for transparency driven monitoring and continuous improvement programs. Prior to launching Level Works, James spent another six years with Bureau Veritas (BV) CPS where he helped launch the Social Accountability division working with American and European brands/retailers to develop and implement international labor compliance programs. While based in Asia, James also acted as a BV’s global technical manager. James has extensive experience working with multi-stakeholder and industry compliance initiatives such as Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, SA8000, WRAP, ICTI, ETI, ICS, BSCI, GSCP, EICC, and the FLA.
James holds an undergraduate degree in environmental studies from University of California’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management as well as an international MBA.
James is a California native that lives in San Francisco with his wife and two young children. He can usually be found surfing Ocean Beach, exploring the California coastline, snowboarding in the Sierras or cruising around SF Bay.
